Regardless of age, sooner or later, we will all suffer aches; whether caused by intense exercise, arthritis, or a fall. For those who prefer natural ingredients, that are both safe and effective — for adults as well as children, aromatherapy is the way to go.

Keep in mind that essential oils should never be used without a base oil to dilute their strength. Most essential oils are too powerful to be used directly on the skin without being diluted. Grape seed oil is a good base for most people, particularly those who have oily to normal skin types, as it has an astringent quality and will not clog the pores. Almond oil may be preferable for those who have dry skin, as it is very moisturizing.

Place ingredients in an amber glass bottle and gently swirl together. Amber glass will effectively protect the analgesic oil from light and air. The mixture will remain effective for up to three months.

As I mentioned in 'Eucalyptus Essential Oil for Headaches', peppermint can be exchanged for eucalyptus, if you don't have peppermint on hand. And, for additional potency, you can also add 6 drops of ginger essential oil. Ginger is excellent for sprains and bones on the mend. If you're one of those people who wakes up feeling stiff and achy, apply this analgesic oil to your sore spots before turning in at night. The inoffensive scent won’t keep you awake nor repel your significant other, and you’ll wake up the next morning pain-free!
